From Bill Brese:

Rajpur Foster Children Project - Update
July 2010

There is both good news and bad news to report.

The good news is that the Moravian Church in Canada sent $65,000 to Rajpur last year in support of 56 needy students who are cared for and educated at the Moravian Institute in Rajpur , India. This included $16,600 which was contributed in support of the Lasting Legacy Project , which is used to help graduating students go on to advanced education.

The bad news is that instead of getting an additional $25,000 from the Alberta Government -Community Initiatives Program as expected, we got only $16,000. Our grant application was scaled back because they had insufficient funds to meet all of the grant applications in full.

In an attempt to cover the shortfall of $9,000 we are getting out the word , so the new girls’ earthquake- proof dormitory can be completed this fall, as planned.

Should you feel led to help, you may make your contribution through your congregation or by mailing your cheque, made payable to THE MORAVIAN CHURCH IN CANADA, to Bill Brese, 4349 - 17Street, Edmonton, AB T6T 1H9. Income tax receipts for donations will be issued.

Just received additional information from Rev. Thsespal Kundan at Rajpur:

“I am sorry that the interruption of the work by the government officials has not been lifted yet. There is a hearing in the Commissioner's court this coming Monday 26th (July), and we are hopeful of a positive outcome then. I will write to you as soon as the hearing concludes. Due to this interruption, the completion date has had to be postponed by six weeks, to mid-October. Please do ask the congregations and all the sponsors to pray for us.”
